Removing the rods
Unpin and unscrew the nuts with which the ball pins of the side rods are attached to the swing arms; puller А.47052 (pic. 133) remove the ball pins from the conical sockets on the levers (pic. 134).
Unpin and unscrew the nuts securing the ball pins of the middle and side rods to the bipod and pendulum lever. Using puller A.47035, remove the fingers from the corresponding sockets on the levers and remove the rods.
Installation of rods
The rods are installed in the reverse order of removal. In this case, all nuts are tightened with a torque wrench, followed by cotter pins. If the notch of the nut does not coincide with the hole for the cotter pin, then the nut is tightened to an angle less than 60°to ensure the cotter pin.
After installing the rods, the toe of the front wheels is adjusted.
Check and repair
After removing and disassembling the steering rods, check the condition of the protective caps. Damaged caps are replaced. In addition, the condition of the ball joints of the rods is checked by radial and axial clearance. If free play is felt in the ball joint, or dirt or sand has entered the joint, corrosion has appeared on the ball pin, or the stroke of the thrust bearing has been fully used, then the joint is replaced together with the thrust tip.
