General description of the transmission

Cars VAZ-2101, VAZ-2102 and their modifications have a classic layout, i.e. front engine and rear drive wheels. With this arrangement, the transmission includes a clutch, a gearbox, a driveline, a main gear, a differential, and axle shafts.

The transmission of VAZ-21011 and VAZ-21013 cars is completely unified with the transmission of the base model VAZ-2101. For VAZ-2102 and VAZ-21021 cars, compared to the VAZ-2101, the number of teeth on the final drive gears has been changed to ensure a gear ratio of 4.44. Until April 1978, gearbox covers were installed on VAZ-2101 and VAZ-2102 vehicles without a reversing light switch.
