Possible malfunctions of the wiper motor (VAZ-21011, 1974-1983)

Cause	Elimination Method
The wiper motor does not work, the bimetal fuse does not work and the fuse 2 in the fuse box does not blow
The power wires of the gearmotor are damaged, the lugs of the wires in the connecting blocks are oxidized	Check wires, replace if damaged. Strip the tips
Damaged wiper switch	Replace Switch
Hanging of the brushes of the electric motor, severe pollution or burning of the collector	Check, eliminate stuck brushes or replace damaged parts; strip the collector
Breakage of the wires connecting the brushes of the electric motor with the block of wires	Check and, if necessary, solder broken wires
Damaged thermal bimetallic fuse in the gearmotor	Clean the contacts of the thermal bimetal fuse or replace it
Wire break in the motor armature winding	Replace armature or gearmotor
Wiper motor not working, bimetal fuse blows or fuse 2 in fuse box blown
The wiper arms are deformed and touch body parts	Check, straighten the levers or replace the wiper
Brushes stuck to glass	Tear off the brushes from the glass, being careful not to damage the rubber band
A foreign object has entered the windshield wiper mechanism	Check, remove item
Short circuit in the motor armature winding	Replace gearmotor or motor armature
Windshield wiper does not work intermittently

Wiper relay damaged:
break in the relay winding;	replace the relay;
short circuit of wires on a contact rack;	remove the short;
gap between relay breaker contacts	eliminate the gap, if necessary, replace the relay
Wiper does not stop intermittently
Blown winding of the breaker in the wiper relay	Replace Wiper Relay
The cam of the gear motor gear does not bend the spring plate of the limit switch	Bend the switch plate so that the cam bends the plate
Contamination of the contacts of the limit switch in the gearmotor	Clean the contacts of the limit switch
Pollution of the breaker contacts in the wiper relay	Clean breaker contacts or replace relay
The wiper works intermittently with stops. Brushes do not stop in their original position
Oxidation or incomplete contact of the limit switch contacts in the gearmotor	Strip the switch contacts or bend the limit switch plate
Cleaner gearmotor works, brushes do not move
Gear teeth broken	Replace gear
Weak fastening of the crank on the axis of the gear motor gear	Check, tighten the crank nut, setting it in its final position
