Checking the angle of the closed state of the breaker contacts can be carried out both on the car and on the removed distributor. The angle of the closed state of the contacts should be within 52-58°.
Examination
1. We prepare the car for operations (see "Vehicle preparation for maintenance and repair"). We turn on the neutral gear.
2. Disconnect the wire from the negative battery terminal (see "Battery - removal and installation").
3. Remove the distributor cap (see "Distributor cap and slider - check and replace").
4. Special key at 38 mm turn the crankshaft (see "Front crankshaft oil seal - replacement") (on the removed distributor, turn the roller by hand) until the stop on the moving contact lever is installed on the top of the breaker cam. With a probe, we check the gap between the contacts of the breaker, which should be in the range of - 0.35-0.45 mm.
5. A more accurate check, taking into account the dimensional errors of the parts, can be performed by measuring the resistance in the breaker contact circuit with an ohmmeter. To do this, we prepare a circle with a marked sector of 55°and put it on the distributor roller.
6. We connect one terminal of the ohmmeter to the distributor housing, and the other to the contact bolt connected by a wire to the coil terminal.
7. Turning the distributor shaft (car - crankshaft), set the position of the beginning of opening contacts (resistance tends to infinity). We combine the right border of the sector with the center of the lateral contact of the slider. Next, turning the distributor shaft clockwise, we check the angle at which the contacts close (inside the sector, the resistance is minimal).
In the event that the angle does not match the required one - 52-58°, we perform its adjustment (see below).
8. Remove the key from the crankshaft pulley mounting nut.
Adjustment
1. Loosen the screw securing the contact group of the breaker with a slotted screwdriver.
2. Loosen the adjusting screw with the same tool. By moving the contact group, we adjust the gap in the contacts. By pressing the group to the cam, we reduce the angle of the closed state and vice versa.
3. After tightening the adjusting screw, we repeat the check (see above). With the angle set correctly, tighten the second screw securing the contact group.
4. Install the cover in place. After adjusting the angle of the closed state of the breaker contacts, it is necessary to check the correct setting of the ignition timing.
