In most accidents with damage to the roof panel, it will need to be replaced. To do this, remove the windshield and rear windows, the roof upholstery and its accessories. Lay the new roof panel on top of the bodywork and determine where the side panels and A-pillars are to be cut. Stepping back from the edge of the roof panel 8 mm, cut (pic. 284) along the bends of the connections to the windscreen frame panels, rear window frame cross member, gutters and roof side panels. At the side panels of the roof, cut the panel 10-15 mm above the markup.
Detach the roof panel, remove the remaining panel strips, and clean up the remaining body and new panel seats. Align the body parts at the joints with the panel and adjust the new roof panel in place.
At the points shown in Fig. 285 arrows, gas weld the new roof panel to the windscreen frame panel and roof side panels. Check the fit of the panel and weld around the perimeter by contact welding with a pitch of 40-50 mm. Weld the roof panel to the side panels by gas welding.
In the absence of a contact welding machine, gas welding or electric welding in a carbon dioxide environment is allowed.
