Possible malfunctions of the battery, their causes and remedies are shown in the table.

Accelerated battery discharge during vehicle operation
Alternator drive belt slip	Adjust belt tension
Generator malfunction	Check the generator
Damage to the insulation in the electrical system (discharge current more than 1 mA with disconnected consumers)	Locate the current leakage and repair the damage
Short circuit between plates	Replace battery
Connection of current consumers not provided for by the design in excess of permissible limits	Disable new consumers
Electrolyte contamination with foreign impurities	Drain the electrolyte, flush and charge the battery
Excessive contamination of the battery surface	Clean your battery
Electrolyte level below the upper edge of the plates	Restore normal electrolyte levels
The appearance of electrolyte on the surface of the battery
Elevated electrolyte level leading to sloshing	Set normal electrolyte level
Electrolyte seepage through cracks in the case	Replace battery
Electrolyte boiling due to very high alternator voltage	Replace the voltage regulator in the generator
Boiling of the electrolyte due to sulfation of the plates	Replace battery
