Starting a cold engine
1. Place the shift lever in neutral and pull out the carburetor choke control.
2. At very low ambient temperatures, turn on the headlights for a few seconds to warm up the electrolyte in the battery and press the clutch pedal.
3. Insert the key into the ignition switch and turn on the starter without depressing the accelerator pedal. If the engine does not start on the first attempt, turn off the ignition and after about 30 seconds, turn on the starter again. It is not recommended to turn on the starter for more than 10 s.
4. After starting the engine, release the ignition key, which will automatically return to the "Ignition".
With stable engine operation after starting, smoothly release the clutch pedal and, gradually, as the crankshaft speed increases, drown the carburetor choke control handle.
After a long parking of the car, before starting the engine, it is recommended to pump fuel into the carburetor float chamber, for which press lever 1 several times (pic. 27) manual pumping of fuel.
At a temperature of minus 25°C and below, as well as during heavy snowfalls, it is recommended to close the radiator grille with a protective apron for more intensive warming up of the engine and maintaining its thermal regime.
Hot engine start
When the engine is hot, the carburetor choke control knob must be depressed. Before starting the engine, gently depress the accelerator pedal about a third of its travel. After starting, as soon as the engine starts to run smoothly, gradually release the pedal.
