The car is equipped with a 4-cylinder carburetor engine (see fig. Longitudinal and cross section of the engine 2105) with an in-line vertical arrangement of cylinders and an overhead camshaft.
Depending on the model or modification of the car, three types of engines can be installed:
- 2105 - with a working volume of 1.3 liters. Until 1994, it was the main engine for the VAZ-2105 and VAZ-2104 cars;
- 2101 - with a working volume of 1.2 liters. It differs from the 2105 engine in a cylinder diameter reduced by 3 mm. Therefore, he has a different cylinder block and a connecting rod and piston group;
- 2103 - with a working volume of 1.45 liters. Since 1994, this engine has been mainly installed on VAZ-2105 and VAZ-2104 cars. It differs from the above engines by an increased piston stroke of 14 mm. Therefore, it has a different cylinder block, crankshaft and other parts of the timing chain drive. The cylinder diameter is the same as that of the 2101 engine. In addition, a carburetor with different calibration data is installed on it, designed for engines with a displacement of 1.5 liters.
This section describes how to repair the 2105 engine.
Features of the repair of engines 2101 and 2103 are set out in subsection 11.1.
The engine assembly with clutch and gearbox is mounted on the car on three elastic supports (see fig. Engine Mount). The supports perceive both the mass of the engine and the loads arising from the vibration of the engine, from the inertia of the engine when starting the car from a standstill, accelerating and braking. With two front supports, the engine is attached to the cross member of the front suspension of the car, and the rear - to the cross member of the rear engine suspension.
