The generator is mounted on a bracket at the front of the engine on the right side.
Technical characteristics of the G-221 generator
Maximum output current (at a voltage of 13 V and a rotor speed of 5000 min–1), A | 42 |
Operating voltage, V | 13,9–14,5 |
Belt drive ratio | 1:2,04 |
Direction of rotation (drive side) | right |
The stator and generator covers are connected by four bolts. The rotor shaft rotates in two sealed ball bearings. Bearings are lubricated for the entire life of the generator. The inner ring of the rear bearing is pressed onto the rotor shaft, and the outer ring is pressed into the rear cover. The second rotor bearing is pressed into the front cover and clamped on both sides with plates with four bolts.
Stator winding - three-phase, connected according to the scheme «star». The battery charging signaling relay is connected to the neutral wire terminal. If, after starting the engine, the indicator lamp is on, a malfunction has occurred in the generator circuit.
The rectifier is a bridge circuit, it consists of six power limiting diodes. They are pressed into two horseshoe-shaped aluminum radiator plates. The plates are combined into a rectifier unit mounted on the rear cover of the generator.
The excitation winding of the generator is located on the rotor. The winding leads are soldered to two copper slip rings on the rotor shaft. Power is supplied to them through two copper-graphite brushes. Conclusion «67» brush holder connected to the output «67» voltage regulator, which is mounted on the left mudguard in the engine compartment.
An electronic voltage regulator 121.3702 is currently being installed. It is unbreakable and cannot be repaired.
On cars of early releases, an electromechanical relay-regulator PP-380 was used. Regulators are interchangeable, but electronic is preferable.
Attention! «Minus» battery must always be connected to the car body, and «plus» - to the conclusion «30» generator.
Do not disconnect the battery while the generator is running. This can lead to damage to the electronic components of the on-board network.
Maintenance of the generator consists in monitoring the tension of its drive belt (see Replacing the alternator drive belt).
