The car is equipped with a safety steering with a worm-roller gearbox and a articulated-lever steering gear.
The upper part of the steering, located in the passenger compartment, is covered with removable plastic casings. Steering wheel fixed with a nut on the conical splines of the upper steering shaft. steering shaft consists of upper and intermediate shafts. The upper shaft is mounted in the tube of the shaft mounting bracket on two needle bearings. The bracket is secured with two nuts on bolts welded to the body and two shear head bolts. Elongated mounting holes allow you to change the longitudinal position of the bracket during installation. Cardan joints are installed at the ends of the intermediate shaft, one of which is connected to the upper shaft, the other to the gearbox shaft.
Steering gearbox mounted on the left side member in the engine compartment with three bolts. The gap in the engagement of the worm with a double-ridged roller mounted on the bipod shaft can be adjusted. The adjusting screw is installed in the top cover of the gearbox housing. The gear ratio of the worm pair is 16.4. About 0.2 liters of gear oil is poured into the gearbox housing. To do this, there is a filling hole in the top cover, closed with a stopper. There is no drain hole; in operation, oil is only topped up if necessary.
Steering gear consists of a middle link, two side links, a pendulum arm and wheel knuckles. The middle rod, pivotally connecting the bipod of the gearbox and the pendulum lever, is non-separable. The side tie rods pivotally connect the bipod of the gearbox and the pendulum lever with the levers of the steering knuckles of the wheels. Each side steering rod consists of two tips, external and internal. Shanks of both tips have right and left threads and are interconnected by a split adjusting sleeve. The tie rod adjusting sleeve is made with an internal thread, the rotation of the sleeve changes the length of the rods and, accordingly, the angle of convergence of the wheels. External tips of lateral drafts are interchangeable. The ball joints of the steering rods are non-separable, covered with dirt-protective covers. A ball joint pin is a rod with a conical surface, at one end of which there is a spherical head, and at the other end a thread is cut. The pendulum arm with bracket is attached with two bolts to the right side member of the vehicle. The axis of the lever rotates in two polyurethane bushings inserted into the bores of the bracket body.
The maximum angle of rotation of the front wheels is limited by the stop of the protrusions of the bipod in the gearbox housing.
