Coolant Temperature Gauge Sensor — Replacement

If the sensor gives incorrect data on the temperature of the coolant, then it is necessary to check it on a warm engine. To do this, with the ignition on, remove the wire tip from the sensor and close it to "mass". If the arrow of the temperature gauge on the instrument panel deviates to the right as far as it will go, the sensor is faulty. If the arrow does not move, then this indicates an open circuit.

Removing

1. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery (see "Battery - removal and installation").

2. Drain the coolant from the cylinder block (see "Coolant - level check and replacement").

3. Move the protective cap and disconnect the wire tip from the sensor.



4. Using a 21 mm socket wrench with a deep head or a candle wrench, we unscrew the sensor from the cylinder head.



The sensor has a tapered thread, so no additional seal is required.

Installation

1. Install the coolant temperature gauge sensor in reverse order.

2. Add coolant to the radiator (see "Coolant - level check and replacement").
