Removing the instrument cluster
Before removing the instrument cluster, disconnect the wire from the terminal «minus» battery, and disconnect the flexible shaft from the instrument panel (if it exists) daily counter speedometer. In addition, it is necessary to disconnect the flexible speedometer drive shaft from the gearbox.
Remove the plastic visor of the instrument panel by pulling the upper edge of the visor towards you, which is secured with two latches. After leaving the sockets of the upper latches, moving the visor upwards, release the lower fixing hooks of the visor from the nests of the instrument panel; grasp the protruding ends of the springs for fastening the instrument cluster with your hands, press them to the center of the combination and, at the same time, pull it towards you, remove it from the socket. Disconnect the wires, the flexible speedometer drive shaft and the econometer tube from the instrument cluster.
Installing the instrument cluster
Installation of a combination of devices is carried out in an order, the return to removal. The flexible speedometer drive shaft is connected first to the instrument cluster, and then, after it is installed, to the speedometer drive on the gearbox. During installation, avoid loops and bends of the flexible shaft, leading to permanent deformation of its shell. After installing the instrument cluster, the flexible shaft must not have sharp bends under the instrument panel. The bending radii of the shaft shell in the mounted state must be at least 100 mm.
If a new flexible shaft is installed, then before installing it on the car, it is recommended to apply grease LSTs-15 or LITOL-24 to the shaft shell over a length of 50 mm before and after the seal. The seal must be at a distance of 350 mm from the top end of the shaft. The lubricated shaft cover will easily slide in the seal and therefore no shaft loops will form under the instrument panel when the instrument cluster is reinstalled. After applying the lubricant, pull the shaft through the seal two or three times to rub the lubricant.
When installing a new shaft, pass it first through the central and right holes of the steering shaft bracket, and then into the hole in the bulkhead. The free end of the shaft in the engine compartment must be under the brake pipes.
