Front wheel drive oil seals — replacement

A worn and damaged front wheel drive oil seal can be determined by an external inspection of the gearbox. During long-term operation of a car with a faulty oil seal, oil leaks become covered with a thick layer of greasy dirt. If oil leakage is detected on the gearbox housing and oil is draining from the gearbox, it is necessary to replace the faulty oil seal.

Comment. The drive seals can be replaced without removing the gearbox from the vehicle.

Warning! Left and right drive seals are not interchangeable (catalog numbers: right oil seal - 2110-2301034 or 2110-2301034-01; left oil seal - 2110-2301035 or 2110-2301035-01.

Removing

1. Drain the oil from the gearbox (see "Gearbox - oil change").

2. We take out the drive (see "Front wheel drive - removal and installation").

3. Prying the stuffing box with a large slotted screwdriver or mounting spatula, remove it from the mounting hole.

Installation

We lubricate the working edge of the new oil seal with gear oil and press it in, using the old oil seal as a mandrel.



The opposite wheel drive seal is replaced in the same way.

Warning! Do not remove both drives at the same time or, if necessary, install a special mandrel instead of one of them to prevent the side gears from falling out of the differential box.
