Steering column locking mechanism — check and adjustment

To do the job, you will need a puller to remove the retaining rings.

Examination

1. We prepare the car for work (see "Preparing the car for maintenance and repair").

2. Check the reliability of fixing the steering column (see "Steering - check of technical condition").

Recommendation: If the force developed by the locking mechanism is not enough, adjust it.

Adjustment

1. Remove the lower trim of the steering column (see "Decorative overlays of a steering column - removal and installation").

2. With a puller, remove the lock ring of the adjustment mechanism bolt.



3. We rearrange the lever on the bolt one slot clockwise.

4. We check the reliability of fixing the steering column. If necessary, move the lever one more slot clockwise.

5. We install the retaining ring of the bolt in place and once again make sure that the steering shaft mechanism is securely fixed. Repeat the adjustment if necessary.

6. At the end of the adjustment, install the steering column trim in place.
