Disconnect the wires from the battery and from the electrical components installed on the engine.
Drain the fluid from the radiator, cylinder block and heater, to do this, unscrew the plugs on the left side of the cylinder block and on the lower radiator tank, move the upper heater control lever to the right (they open the heater valve) and remove the plugs from the expansion tank and radiator.
Warning. In order not to damage the radiator, when unscrewing the drain plug, hold the plug fitting soldered into the radiator with the second wrench. Unscrew the cork with a socket or spanner wrench so as not to rip off the edges of the cork.
Remove the fan shroud by first separating its halves. Disconnect the coolant inlet and outlet hoses from the engine and remove the radiator together with the thermostat and hoses.
Remove the air filter by first disconnecting the hoses from it, removing the cover and filter element.
Loosen the nuts securing the muffler intake pipe to the exhaust manifold. Disconnect the downpipe from the bracket on the gearbox and lower it down.
Disconnect the carburetor throttle linkage and choke control cable from the engine.
Disconnect the fuel supply hose from the engine, the hoses going to the heater and the vacuum brake booster.
Using a socket wrench 02.7812.9500, unscrew the bolts securing the starter to the clutch housing. Loosen the bolts securing the clutch housing cover to the bottom of the clutch housing. Using a socket wrench A.55035, unscrew the bolts securing the clutch housing to the cylinder block.
Hang the TSO-3/379 traverse on the hoist and sling the engine on the right side by the bracket mounted on the front exhaust manifold mounting stud, and on the left side by the clutch cover mounting hole.
Slightly tension the hoist chain, unscrew the nuts securing the pillows 3 (pic. 2-3) front engine mount to the side brackets, unscrew the nuts and the bolt securing the front axle housing to the engine brackets.
Remove the engine by first lifting it up to remove the suspension mount bolts from the holes in the brackets, and then moving it forward to remove the end of the transmission input shaft from the bearing located in the crankshaft flange.
Remove the starter heat shield, starter and hot air intake along with the supply hose. Remove the two side brackets with the front engine mounts from the cylinder block.
Loosen the clutch mounting bolts and remove it.
Install the engine to the vehicle in the reverse order of removal. Pay special attention to connecting the engine to the gearbox: the drive shaft must fit exactly into the splines of the clutch disc. In addition, to ensure the centering of the engine and transfer case, it is necessary that the centering washers of the front engine mounts fit into the corresponding holes in the side brackets.
