Disassembly of the front axle

Install and fix the front axle on the repair stand Remove plug 5 and drain the oil from the crankcase, then perform the following operations on both ends of the front axle:

• unscrew the nuts securing the cover 12 of the bearing 7 of the inner hinge housing and remove the hinge, taking care not to damage the gasket;
• having removed the retaining ring 11 and the spring washer 10, press the bearing 7 off the body 9 of the inner hinge and remove the stuffing box 8.

Remove the stamped axle housing cover and gasket. It is not recommended to remove the bottom cover 2.

Disassemble the front axle gearbox using the techniques described in chapter «rear axle».
