Starting a cold engine
1. Place the shift lever in neutral position. When the ambient temperature is below zero, press the clutch pedal.
2. Pull out the carburetor choke cover, insert the key into the ignition switch and turn on the starter without depressing the accelerator pedal.
If the engine does not start on the first try, turn off the ignition and after about 30 seconds, turn on the starter again. It is not recommended to turn on the starter for more than 10 s. After starting the engine, release the ignition key, which will automatically return to the «I».
3. With stable engine operation after starting, smoothly release the clutch pedal and gradually, as the crankshaft speed increases, sink the carburetor air damper cover handle.
On a vehicle with a fuel injection system, it is not necessary to press the accelerator pedal during starting and warming up the engine.
At an ambient temperature of minus 25°C, to facilitate starting the engine, turn on the headlights for a few seconds to warm up the electrolyte in the battery.
After a long parking of the car, before starting the engine, pump fuel into the carburetor float chamber, for which press lever 1 several times (pic. 1-7) manual pumping of fuel.
Hot engine start
On a hot engine, the carburetor choke cover knob should be recessed. To start, depress the accelerator pedal, about a third of its travel, and as soon as the engine starts to run smoothly, gradually release the pedal.
