Knocking in the driveline when starting off, during sudden acceleration or gear shifting

1. Loosening the bolts and nuts securing the flexible coupling and universal joint flanges. | 1. Tighten the nuts to the torques given in the appendix. |
2. Increased circumferential clearance in the spline connection of the front or rear cardan shafts. | 2. Check the size of the gap on the average diameter of the spline; if it is more than 0.30 mm, replace worn parts. |
3. Wear of cardan joints. | 3. Repair joints with replacement of worn parts. |
Noise and vibration of the driveline
Cause of malfunction | Elimination Method |
1. Deformation of the front or rear driveshafts. | 1. Straighten on a press or replace shafts. |
2. Imbalance of cardan shafts. | 2. Check and balance the shafts (see «Shaft balancing»). |
3. Wear or damage to the centering sleeve of the flexible coupling flange of the intermediate cardan shaft. | 3. Replace the coupling flange bushing. |
4. Wear of cardan joints. | 4. Repair joints with replacement of worn parts. |
5. Weakening of the gland cage of the splined connection of the front or rear propeller shafts. | 5. Press the stuffing box and crimp its clip, if the lubricant leaks, replace the stuffing box. |
6. Insufficient lubrication of splines. | 6. Lubricate spline connections with Fiol-1 or Fiol-2U grease through grease fittings. |
Lubricant leak
Cause of malfunction | Elimination Method |
1. Loosening of the gland cage of the splined connection of the front or rear propeller shafts. | 1. Press the stuffing box and crimp the clip, replace the worn stuffing box. |
2. Damage to the protective cover of the hinge of equal angular velocities of the intermediate shaft. | 2. Disassemble the hinge, replace the grease and the protective cover. If parts are damaged, replace the hinge assembly. |
