- remove the rear wheels;
- make sure the drums spin freely (when the shoes touch the drum, release the adjusting nut 9 (see fig. 123);
- take out the plugs that cover the holes in the drums to adjust the clearance in the brake mechanism;
- turn the adjusting nut with a screwdriver 13 (see fig. 121) until the brake pads touch the drum, which is determined by the difficult rotation of the drum in both directions;
- turn the adjusting nut in the opposite direction by the number of teeth, which ensures the beginning of free rotation of the drum;
- put the plug in place and fix the wheel;
- check the tension of the parking brake cable. If the parking brake lever has a stroke of more than five teeth, then the parking brake actuator is adjusted (see sect. «Parking brake adjustment»).
To make sure that the brake mechanism is adjusted correctly, they drive a car for 2-3 km without using the brakes and, having stopped, they are convinced by touch that the drums do not heat up. With strong heating of the drums, repeat the adjustment.
