Disconnect the wire from the terminal "–" battery and drain the coolant.
Set the piston of the first cylinder to the TDC position (see subsection 10.1.).
Remove the tension roller (see subsection 10.3.1.).
Remove the camshaft sprocket (see subsection 10.4.2., operations 1–5).
The main defects of the water pump are the leakage of coolant from the pump and the wear of the pump bearing (determined by the increased noise during its operation).
Repair of the water pump, as a rule, does not lead to the desired result. Therefore, it is recommended to replace the pump assembly.
1. Remove the four bolts and nut securing the camshaft drive belt rear cover.
2. Remove the rear camshaft drive belt cover.
3. Inserting a screwdriver into the slot, carefully separate the pump from the unit and remove it.
4. Remove the gasket from the pump.
5. Replace the water pump if coolant is leaking through the drain hole (damaged pump seal)...
6....there is a noticeable axial play of the pump shaft (damaged pump bearing)...
7.... cracks, chips, spalling were found on the impeller 1, toothed pulley 2 and pump housing 3.
8. Check tightness of pump bearing set screw. Tighten the screw if necessary.
9. Replace damaged pump gasket.
10. Install the pump in the reverse order of removal. The number on the pump must point upwards.
11. Install the rest of the parts in the reverse order of removal. At the same time, install the camshaft pulley with the protruding part of the hub away from the engine. After that, check the coincidence of the TDC marks on the camshaft pulley and the rear cover of the drive belt. Adjust the tension of the camshaft drive belt (see subsection 10.3.3.) and fill with coolant.
